Posthumous decoration of T/4 Vincent C. Sonner, 26, son of Mrs. Catherine Sonner, 455 Crossfield Dr., killed in in action on Dec. 23, 1944, in Germany, was announced yesterday by the Army recruiting office here.

The Bornze Star Medal was given to mrs. Sonner, through another son, Edward Sonner, Army Air Corps, at a brief ceremony in the Federal Building.

The medal was for “distinguishing himself by heroic action in connection with military operations Oct. 27, 1944, in the area of Neerkant, Holland,” while serving with a scouting section of 11 men. Out-numbered, the handful of men held off a company of enemy infantry for more than three hours until reinforcements arrived.

The Rochester soldier, a former employee of the Graflex Corporation, joined the Army in feb, 1942, and was assigned to the 7th Armored Division. He went overseas in June, 1944 with his outfit.
